Good morning. Mondays still come. Every week. Let's basketball.

We are two weeks out from the end of the NBA regular season. It's time for an update on seeds and play-in positioning. We'll start out West this week.

BATTLE FOR WEST NO. 1 SEED

Oklahoma City actually lost a game last week and San Antonio didn't. The problem for the Spurs is that they need the Thunder to lose two more and go undefeated to claim No. 1. There actually are some potential losses this week: the Pistons (still sans Cade Cunningham) visit OKC on Monday and the Lakers visit on Thursday. Luka Doncic, who has lightly engaged in the MVP debate, might be out for blood. OKC also gets a visit from the Jazz. San Antonio, meanwhile, will host the Bulls before a road trip visiting Golden State, the Clippers and Denver.

Neither of these teams lose very often these days, so it's hard to see OKC losing two more games than San Antonio. But it's still in the realm of possibility.

BATTLE FOR WEST NOS. 3 & 4

No change in the tiebreaker table for this group of four teams. Minnesota got a win over Houston in dramatic, insane fashion, but they have one match-up left with the tiebreaker on the line.

One additional tiebreaker note: if we have any multi-team ties involving L.A., they will win it on account of being the Pacific Division champs. None of these other teams can win their division.

The Lakers (26 losses) went 2-1 last night. They host Cleveland and Washington before traveling to OKC and Dallas this week. That could be two losses, which is how many Denver trails them by. The Nuggets went 4-0 last week and faces just the Jazz and Spurs this week. Because L.A. has the tiebreaker, Denver needs one fewer loss by the end of the season.

The Wolves and Rockets are both on 29 losses. Minnesota went 1-1 and this week travels to Dallas, Detroit and Philadelphia before hosting the Hornets. Tough sledding. Houston went 2-2 and now hosts the Knicks, Bucks and Jazz before visiting Golden State. Onion time.

THE EAST NO. 1 RACE IS ALMOST ASSUREDLY OVER (RIGHT?)
